Head north through Lincolnshire and Yorkshire today to reach York, England’s ‘eternal city’ with its history recorded in its streets. It was for hundreds of years, England’s second city and within its medieval walls the Minster forms a centrepiece for the relics of Roman and Viking occupation. Lots to see and do, ranging from visiting the Minster to shopping in ‘the Shambles’.

Leaving York, again head north through the old coaching town of Thirsk and 'James Herriot country', Continue through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty to visit the Beamish Open Air Museum, a living and working experience of life during the 18th and 19th century in northern England. Then to Durham with its magnificent castle and even more magnificent Cathedral, which was voted as Britain’s best loved building.

North again, to follow the coast to the Scotish border. Visit Alnwick and if the tide is right visit the Holy Isle – Lindisfarne before spending a short time in Berwick upon Tweed, the town that has changed hands between the Scots and the English so many times over the years and not often peacefully. Then onwards to Edinburgh.

To Stirling’s massively impressive fortress which overlooks the battlefields of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn, where William Wallace and Robert the Bruce defeated the English. Then onward to Pitlochry.

Make your way back into England again. On the border, stop at Gretna Green to see the Blacksmiths Shop that was for years where runaway couples from England could take advantage of easygoing Scottish laws and get married very quickly. Onwards into the English Lake District.

The splendour of England’s Lake District, Great Britain’s most famous National Park, travelling through Ambleside to Rydal and Grassmere, the area that so inspired William Wordsworth. Then past Thirlmere and Hellvellyn and on to Keswick, Buttermere and Ravenglass.
The hairpin bends and steep gradients make Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass two of the most spectacular roads in Great Britain and they lead you past the Roman Fort and back to Windesmere.

Today travel to North Wales along the spectacular coastline to Conwy

A more or less circular route around North Wales along the spectacular coastline, en route to Caernarfon Castle. Onwards to Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales which just happens to have Britain’s only ‘rack and pinion’ railway almost to the top and after the sample these spectacular views, return back into England to stop at the 2000-year-old Roman city of Chester.

Continue to travel England today, departing south to see one of the most memorable sights on any England tour, Warwick with its world famous medieval castle. Then onwards to Stratford upon Avon, renowned as the birthplace of the famous English playwright William Shakespeare.

South again to see some of the Cotswolds and to Bleinheim Palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and a ‘must see’ whilst in England. Then onward to the dreaming spires of Oxford.
